NASDAQ becomes shareholder of Kazakh AIFC

The NASDAQ stock exchange has become a strategic partner and shareholder of the Astana International Financial Center’s (AIFC) Stock Exchange.
The information regarding quantity of shares, obtained by NASDAQ has not been publicized yet.
Liu Shaotong, Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), and Meyer Frucher, Deputy Chairman of the NASDAQ Board, visited Astana to meet with AIFC’s representatives and participate in the Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable investment forum, Kazakh media outlets reported.
The meeting was followed by signature of documents determining the interaction of SSE, NASDAQ with AIFC within the development of Kazakhstan’s capital market.
This cooperation is expected to give a necessary impetus for the implementation of the Economic belt of the Silk Road initiative.
Previously, in May 2017, NASDAQ stock exchange announced that it will introduce its advanced technologies on AIFC, corresponding to the best international practice for providing facilitated access of investors to attractive financial instruments.
The participation of the two leading world exchanges - the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ in the development of the capital market of Kazakhstan is also expected to contribute to increasing efficiency and stability in the whole financial market of the country.
