Turkmenistan, OSCE mull energy security issues

The Turkmen Parliament has hosted a meeting with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Thomas Greminger, the Turkmen government said in a message.

Energy security, the state of which influences stability of the geopolitical situation on the continent, macroeconomic processes and their nature is the most important topic on the agenda of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE, the message said.

In this regard, it was stressed that it is necessary to intensify the energy dialogue by using the mechanisms of multilateral consultations on political, financial-economic, technological, environmental aspects of energy security, stimulate the creation of multifaceted infrastructure of international energy supplies on the basis of fair, equitable and transparent partnership.

The OSCE delegation met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said.

The sides noted the role of interaction in the energy, transport and logistics spheres in ensuring sustainable development in the region.

The parties emphasized importance of ensuring reliability and safety of international energy flows, as well as strengthening of the legal protection of supply routes by developing a new international and legal mechanism, which guarantees the implementation of generally accepted rules of conduct on the global energy market.

Turkmenistan joined the OSCE on January 30, 1992.
