Iran, P5+1 to meet in Vienna to mull nuke deal
By Trend
Representatives of Iran and the six world powers will hold a fresh round of joint commission meeting on January 10 in Vienna to discuss the implementation of the nuclear deal signed in 2015.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and Helga Schmid, who represents European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, will chair the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) Joint Commission meeting, IRNA news agency reported on January 9.
Iranian and American delegations are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting before the commission session.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sent a letter to Mogherini on December16, 2016 requesting for a session with signatories to the international nuclear deal, aka JCPOA, over Washington’s extending the sanctions against Iran for another 10 years.
In his letter, Zarif underlined Iran’s full commitment to the nuclear deal the country struck with the P5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany).
In mid-December, Washington extended for another 10 years, the law on sanctions against Iran.
The final decision was to take President Barack Obama to either sign or reject a bill on the extension of sanctions against Iran adopted earlier by the U.S. Congress. However, he did neither the one nor the other, and so the document automatically became law on December 15.
