Earthquake hits Japan`s Tottori Prefecture
A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Japan`s Tottori prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The agency warned of a possible further earthquake measuring up to lower 6 over the next week. No tsunami warning was issued.
The earthquake disrupted train services and grounded flights. Safety checks have found no problems with runways at the Tottori or Okayama airport. There have been no reports of accidents or other major problems at nuclear power plants near Tottori.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ordered quick assessments of the damage situation, prompt emergency measures including rescues of people affected by the quake, and provision of accurate information on evacuation and damage.
