More and more Azerbaijanis visit Georgia

Azerbaijan has ranked the first for the number of tourists visiting Georgia in September, Sputnik Georgia reported citing the Georgian Interior Ministry.

The official data provided by the ministry shows that 130,851 Azerbaijani citizens visited Georgia last month. Azerbaijan was followed by Russia, Turkey, Iran and other countries for the mentioned indicator.

A total of 631,302 foreigners came to Georgia this September, which is by 11 percent more than it was for the same period of last year. Some 304,814 of them were tourists – this is 34.2 percent more as compared to September 2015.

As for the first nine months of 2016, Georgia was visited by 2,156,731 tourists, which is by 19.5 percent more than the same period of last year.

Noteworthy, Azerbaijan heads the ranking since the beginning of the year. Azerbaijani tourists visit Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia mostly for 3-4 days and spend about $200 per trip.

Overall, Georgia has a pretty climate for receiving tourists. In winter the average temperature is +5°C, and +24°C in the summer. The country has a great number of balneological and spa resorts, alpine skiing spots.

The best time for a trip to Georgia is May-June and September, when there is no heat. The best period to visit the Black sea coast and mountains of the Caucasian country is July-August.

The number of Georgian citizens visiting Azerbaijan is also big. Last year, the country welcomed 571,648 tourists from Georgia.
