‘With great pleasure’: Japanese corporation eyes Green collaboration in Garabagh [EXCLUSIVE]
On the sidelines of COP29, at an eye-catching Japanese pavilion in the Blue Zone, Azernews encountered an exciting exhibition. Japan’s Taisei Corporation was at the forefront of the country’s representation of green initiatives and zero-carbon products.
Masaaki Tsunemi, Manager of the Planning and Promotion Section at Taisei Corporation, spoke about the company's innovative approach to zero-carbon buildings and its interest in expanding to new regions like Azerbaijan’s Garabagh.
What makes your buildings net-zero and climate-friendly?
“We are a design and construction company in Japan. We propose the zero-carbon building. For the life cycle of the building, from procurement until demolition, we calculate the CO2 emissions at each stage. Then we apply the latest technologies, such as zero-carbon concrete, to reduce CO2 during procurement.
For the operation period, we integrate solar panels not only on the roof but also on the sides, like windows. These windows are see-through solar panels, allowing both energy efficiency and aesthetics. We have already supplied such buildings in Japan, and our clients are very satisfied. Our walls and glass contribute to energy efficiency, even if walls are slightly less efficient than rooftop panels. But every improvement helps.”
How sustainable are these buildings in the face of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, rains, and floods?
“Yes, of course, they are sustainable. We ensure regular maintenance of the panels, and the frame is designed to withstand such natural events. In Japan, where earthquakes are frequent, we have developed structures that are highly resilient. Raindrops or other weather conditions pose no problem.”
Azerbaijan has declared Garabagh a green zone. Is Taisei Corporation considering collaboration in this region?
“Yes, with great pleasure. That’s why we are here at COP29. This is our first zero-carbon building in Japan, and we aim to introduce this concept globally. By sharing our knowledge and expertise, we hope to inspire other countries, including Azerbaijan, to adopt similar initiatives.
In addition, we had the chance to experience and execute our urban planning abilities, etc.
