Contract worth $30M signed within TANAP
OptaSense, a UK QinetiQ company, and its partner Optilan have been awarded the combined leak detection and security package from ABB, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction prime contractor for the delivery of the control infrastructure for the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), read a message posted on the website of QinetiQ.
The contract, in excess of $30 million split evenly with Optilan, was awarded at the start of the year and now enters the equipment delivery phase, said the message from QinetiQ.
This will be the world's largest fibre distributed sensing project, protecting and monitoring more than 1,850 kilometers of pipeline, including perimeter security for all facilities, according to the message.
ABB is a Swedish-Swiss multinational corporation operating mainly in robotics and the power and automation technology areas.
ABB was founded as a result of the merger of the Swedish corporation ASEA and the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie in 1988.
TANAP project envisages transportation of gas of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field from Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey. The project's total cost is estimated at $9.3 billion.
The initial capacity of TANAP pipeline is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the remaining volume will be supplied to Europe.
