SOCAR to conduct overhaul of gas mains

Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR has developed a plan for the overhaul and laying of gas pipelines in Azerbaijan, a source in SOCAR told Trend news agency.

According to the source, most gas mains were laid in the 1970's and 80's. Therefore in certain sections, there is a need for their renewal, reconstruction and replacement.

"This will increase pressure and contribute to the further strengthening of the security and stability of supply and export operations," the source said.

According to the source, despite the fact that the repair and maintenance works on gas mains is conducted on a regular basis, it is necessary to prepare a plan and implement activities in accordance with it.

According to the source, SOCAR has always paid great attention to the issue of gas pipeline safety, including the safety of gas mains.

SOCAR supplies gas to Georgia and Russia through export gas pipelines. Alongside them, as part of swap operations, in order to provide Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan with gas, SOCAR also supplies gas to Iran.
