Kazakhstan's KazTransGas plans to buy gas field in Uzbekistan

KazTransGas, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan's state oil and gas company KazMunaiGas, has plans to buy gas field in Uzbekistan, KazTransGas Director General Serik Sultangaly said in an interview with Trend news agency.

"We have plans to enter the Uzbek market, it is about buying a gas field in this country, despite the fact that our own gas reserves are estimated at trillion cubic meters. We intend to familiarize the leadership of our country with these intentions and plans," Sultangaly said.

He said this step has an economic relevance.

"The purchase of a gas field in Uzbekistan is due to the fact that the gas produced by us will be supplied to the south of the country and will be cheaper in five - six times for us, as we can use the existing gas transporting system, which was built by our grandfathers in Soviet times," Sultangaly said.

He recalled that the construction of any new pipeline, especially in the large territory of Kazakhstan costs "billions of dollars".

Gas from Uzbekistan to the south is supplied through two pipelines, BGR-TBA (Bukhara Gas Region- Tashkent-Bishkek-Almaty) and Gazly-Shymkent.
