Schlumberger blamed for tax evasion in Azerbaijan
BAKU – Oilfield services giant Schlumberger has been blamed for evading taxes in Azerbaijan, a senior lawmaker said in parliament Friday.
Ziyad Samadzada, head of the Milli Majlis committee for economic policy, said the company had reduced the amount of certain taxes transferred to the state budget, the Accounting Chamber revealed.
According to Samadzada, the auditors established that Schlumberger Logelco Ltd. sought to evade taxes worth 362,000 manats (over $450,000), though the company transferred the amount to the state budget after the violation was revealed.
Schlumberger Logelco Ltd. provides services under the project on developing Azerbaijan’s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields in the Caspian Sea.
