SOCAR launches gas network in western Georgia
SOCAR Georgia Gas, a subsidiary company of Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR, has launched a network in Georgia that will contribute to gas supplies in the neighboring South Caucasus republic.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who attended a ceremony held on this occasion in the western town of Zugdudi on Wednesday, thanked Azerbaijan for its sincere support.
The president spoke of Georgia-Azerbaijan friendship, stressing the importance of future efficient cooperation.
"President Ilham Aliyev has always kept his word and consistently supported us at times of crises. Today’s event is graphic proof of that. The Georgian people will never forget this kindness," Saakashvili said.
Under a three-year investment program, SOCAR Georgia Gas will supply 150,000 consumers with gas in various parts of Georgia.
The Azerbaijani company was selected in December 2008 to run gas distribution networks in the neighboring country under a tender contested by 30 bidders.*
