"Green" power plant may be installed in Baku sea port
By Narmina Mammadova
A "green" power plant may be installed in the Baku international sea trade port, the Chairman of Azalternative enerji LLC under the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Agshin Bekirzade told Trend.
"The Baku port has asked us to consider the possibility of providing the port with electricity partially or completely by means of renewable energy sources. Now we are working on this project," he said.
Bekirzade noted that currently meteorological observation stations are being installed at the Baku port.
"They will record wind speed and other indicators. Depending on these indicators, we will know which turbines to install. There are a lot of nuances, that is why it is too early to talk about the cost of the project," he stressed.
The capacity of the energy system of Azerbaijan is more than 6,000 megawatts. At the same time, according to experts, the potential of renewable energy sources in the country is more than 25,300 megawatts. Most of the country's potential in this area falls on solar energy, while it is estimated at 5,000 megawatts.
Some 4,500 megawatts accounts for wind power, 1,500 megawatts -- for biomass, 800 megawatts -- for geothermal energy, and the remaining 350 megawatts -- for the small hydro power plants (HPP).
The State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan has determined areas, capacities, amounts to be invested in producing 4,200 megawatts in 2018-2020.
For many millions of years, our planet in its bowels has accumulated a huge amount of coal, hydrocarbons in the form of oil and natural gas. Mankind has learned to use this wealth for its own purposes as energy sources for the development of civilization.
According to the most optimistic forecasts, by the middle of the century, we will reach the point where half of the world's oil reserves will be pumped out.
And this is despite the fact that a person actively devastates and depletes the planet’s bowels for only about 200 years. If we consider that the rates of this scooping increase every year, the reserves remain no more than for one century, depending on the region of the planet. The barrel is not bottomless - everything has its end.
And this means that wars for each barrel of oil, a liter of gasoline, a cubic meter of gas will start on the planet after two or three generations. Naturally, their prices will be exorbitant. The consequences of this impending catastrophe can only be guessed. There is only one way out - savings, the rejection of the reckless spending of reserves of the Earth’s interior, electricity. And, of course, the search for new energy sources.
Azerbaijan aims to increase usage of renewable energy sources and the country has all opportunities for this.
