SOCAR to participate in Iranian projects
By Kamila Aliyeva
Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) was added to the list of partners of Iranian E&P Companies, said Amirhossein Zamaniniya, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs.
Zamaniniya, talking to APA, said that SOCAR appealed for participation in projects in Iran last month.
“SOCAR’s appeal was considered and positive decision was made. So, SOCAR will participate in Iran’s projects and invest in Iran,” he said, adding that the country sees SOCAR as a serious player.
“Now SOCAR can participate in projects in Iran and invest in the country in parallel with such large companies as Shell and Total,” Zamaniniya noted.
SOCAR’s possible participation in oil and gas projects of Iran was discussed during a meeting of a delegation headed by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev with Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh in early April.
The sides considered such issues as cooperation in the gas trade sphere, implementation of joint projects with third countries, and held wide exchange of views.
Zamaniniya further added that SOCAR may participate in both drilling and processing projects in Iran.
“Potential projects were offered to SOCAR and the company should choose one of them,” he added.
SOCAR is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in domestic and international markets, as well as, supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.
SOCAR owns petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania and Switzerland.
