Kazakhstan resumes oil transportation through Azerbaijan

Kazakhstan has resumed the transportation of oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry told Trend.
Roughly 90,000 tons of Kazakh oil was exported through Azerbaijan via the BTC pipeline since early 2017, the Ministry told.
Kazakhstan hasn’t transported oil via the BTC pipeline since the second half of 2015.
Export of Kazakh oil through Azerbaijan wasn’t carried out via any of the existing routes – neither via the BTC oil pipeline, nor via the Baku-Supsa pipeline and railway in 2016.
BTC pipeline is a 1,768 km long crude oil pipeline from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the longest pipelines in the world. It runs 443km through Azerbaijan, 249km through Georgia and 1,076km through Turkey to the Ceyhan Marine Terminal.
The pipeline has a capacity to export one million barrels of oil a day.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Company (BTC Co.) was established in London on 1 August 2002. Construction began in April 2003 and was completed in 2005. BTC became fully operational in 2006. The first oil that was pumped from the Baku end of the pipeline reached Ceyhan on 28 May 2006.
