Moscow hails successful parliamentary election in Azerbaijan

Moscow welcomes the successful election held in Azerbaijan, a friendly country, said Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

She made the remarks at a briefing on November 5, the Russia 24 TV channel reported.

Zakharova added that observers noted the absence of violations and the high level of the election held.

“Representatives of the Federation Council of the State Duma, the Central Election Commission of Russia took part in the electoral monitoring as part of the CIS observer mission, and together with colleagues from other countries they praised the organization and conduct of the voting,” she said.

“Observers noted that election meets international standards and laws of the country and mentioned the lack of serious violations.”

Parliamentary election in Azerbaijan became a new major step in the development of government and civil society institutions, ensuring domestic political stability in the country, said Zakharova.

“We traditionally develop close, confidential, partnership relations with this country,” she said.

Azerbaijan held its parliamentary election on November 1. As many as 767 candidates ran for 125 seats in the country’s parliament. The election was monitored by 503 international observers from 40 organizations and over 66,000 local observers.

Following the election, many foreign observers, analysts and experts pointed out the transparency, openness and smooth voting process at the election, as well as high voter turnout.
