First Lady pays tribute to prominent orientalist Aida Imanguliyeva

Azerbaijani First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva paid a tribute to outstanding orientalist Aida Imanguliyeva on the occasion of her 75th anniversary on October 10.
First Lady and her family members put flowers at the grave of the prominent scholar, who played a critical role in the development of Oriental studies in Azerbaijan.
Aida Imanguliyeva was an active orientalist-scientist who earned respect of the scientific public. She was a member of the Presidium of All-Union Oriental Studies Society and the All-Union Coordination Council on survey of Eastern literature in the former USSR. As a representative of Azerbaijan's orientalists' school, she gave lectures in scientific congresses, symposiums, sessions held in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Poltava, Dushanbe, Tbilisi and other cities.
First, she worked as a senior scientific employee in "Arabic literary" group and became the head of the group in 1972. She started working as the head of the "Arabic Philology" department newly established within the institute in 1976. While she was leading that department, ten orientalists defended their Ph.D. theses under her guidance, and were rewarded with the scientific degree of a candidate of Philological Sciences.
Aida Imanguliyeva was appointed deputy director of the institute on scientific issues in 1988 due to her hard work and activity. A year later, she defended her Doctor's thesis that she was working on for a long time.
Aida Imanguliyeva, Azerbaijan's first female doctor of sciences and first professor on Arabian literary, continued to rise in stairs of high-ranked positions. She was the director of the Oriental Studies Institute in December, 1991.
Aida Imanguliyeva passed away on September 19, 1992.
