Johns Hopkins University professor becomes honorary doctor of ADA University

Professor of the U.S. Johns Hopkins University, Founder and Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute S. Frederick Starr has been named the honorary doctor of ADA University.

Rector of ADA University, Deputy Foreign Minister Hafiz Pashayev sincerely welcomed the professor, who made huge contributions to the development of the science on behalf of tutorial staff and students of the University.

Pashayev hailed Starr's studies and investigations on the history, dynamics of development of the Central Asia Region, as well as policy of the region.

He also spoke of the sincerity-based bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and the U.S., and fruitful cooperation in scientific, educational and cultural fields.

The rector noted the importance of such meetings in terms of strengthening scientific, educational and cultural relations among the two countries' universities.

Addressing the event, Advisor to the Rector on External Affairs John Maresca gave information about the life and scientific achievements of Frederick Starr.

Later, Starr made a speech at the event and thanked the collective of the University for the Honorary Doctor Title.

Then, a presentation of the Professor's new book titled "Lost Enlightenment: Central Asia's Golden Age from the Arab Conquest to Tamerlane" was held.

Following the presentation, Starr was presented the Honorary Doctor Title of ADA University and Diploma for his services in expanding bilateral ties between the U.S. and Azerbaijan.

The event was attended by members of the Azerbaijani Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan, public figures and journalists.

Founded by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and chartered by a Presidential decree, ADA University is dedicated to preparing innovative global leaders and to promoting useful collaborative research on diplomacy, public and international affairs, business, humanities and sciences, information technologies and system engineering.

ADA opened its doors to students in January 2007 and moved to its permanent "green" and "smart" campus in downtown Baku, in September of 2012.
