CoE Secretary General’s Baku visit  postponed

The visit of a delegation led by Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland to Azerbaijan was postponed until mid-May, Council of Europe press service told Trend Agency on April 15.

The visit was postponed due to the fact that this and the following week Jagland must take part in the emergency debates in Strasbourg with regard to the developments in Ukraine, as well as in the meetings of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.

The delegation led by Jagland was scheduled to visit Azerbaijan in April 22-24.

The visit was aimed to discuss the prospects for cooperation between the CoE and Azerbaijan, as well as the issues regarding Azerbaijan's chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

During the visit, the delegation was expected to hold meetings with the Azerbaijani officials, including the parliamentary speaker, foreign minister and justice minister.

It was also expected to announce the official start of the Council of Europe's action plan for Azerbaijan, which covers the period from 2014 to 2016.
