By Nazrin Gadimova
The northern regions of Azerbaijan witnessed the first snowfall on December 3.
Most of the snow fell in the Laza village of the Gusar district, where the snow depth has reached 23 centimeters.
Guba Regional Hydrometeorology Department reported that the depth of snow in the Altiaghaj village of Khizi district and also in Guba and Gusar districts has reached 20 and 12 centimeters respectively.
Temperature in mountainous areas has fallen to 12 degrees below zero, reaching 5-6 degrees below zero in the foothills of the same areas.
Snowfall in Shamakha district, which began last night, has covered the roads in ice, creating difficulties for cars that move in the direction of Shamakha-Pirgulu. While some cars moving towards Pirgulu had to turn back, some others stayed on the road all night.
Snow depth in villages in the district's mountainous areas exceeded 10-15 centimeters.
Despite the snowfall, Baku-Shamakha highway is opened to traffic.
