Czech Republic highlights friendly ties as Azerbaijan appoints honorary consul

Azerbaijani Embassy in the Czech Republic has held an event over the start of Fakhraddin Mirzayev's activity as the Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan in the Karlovy Vary city, the Foreign Ministry website said on September 24.
During an event held on this occasion, Azerbaijani Ambassador Tahir Taghizade pointed out the friendly relations between the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan and the development of economic, cultural and humanitarian relations in recent years. This is evidenced by the appointment of Azerbaijan's Honorary Consul in Karlovy Vary, he said.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohout, who attended the event, welcomed the current level of relations between the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan.
He said that after the opening of the Honorary Consulate, the friendly relations will be further strengthened.
Kohout also stressed that Azerbaijan is developing rapidly.
He congratulated Consul Mirzayev on his appointment and officially handed him the exequatur.
Mirzayev thanked the Czech foreign minister and said he will contribute to the development of friendly relations between the two countries.
The event was also attended by members of the Czech Parliament, Deputy Foreign Minister Tomas Dub, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Milan Hovorka, head of the foreign relations department at the presidential administration, Hynek Kmonicek, Foreign Ministry official Tomas Pernitsky, as well as business people and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora.
The Czech Republic recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on January 8, 1992. Diplomatic relations between two countries were established in 1993.
The Czech ambassador to Georgia is also accredited to neighboring Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani Embassy in the Czech Republic was opened on August 15, 2007.
Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are interested in the promotion of high-level political dialogue and expansion of cooperation between their legislative and executive bodies. The two countries also cooperate within the framework of international organizations, such as the UN, OSCE, NATO, etc.
The Czech Republic supports a settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully and in line with international law, particularly on the basis of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
