The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has decided to send a short-term mission to Azerbaijan to observe the presidential elections, OSCE PA reported on September 13.

The observation mission will visit the country several days before the elections.

The mission's composition has not been defined yet, while each delegation presented in the OSCE PA can send only one observer.

OSCE PA Bureau observers will also join the mission.

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Leonid Kozhara appointed the head of the French delegation to the OSCE PA, Michel Voisin, as a special coordinator of short observation mission. OSCE PA President Ranko Krivokapic will appoint the head of the observation mission when the composition is defined.

Meanwhile, Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE PA Bahar Muradova said that upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be discussed at the fall session of the OSCE PA.

According to Muradova, the observation mission will announce its preliminary conclusion on the presidential elections in Azerbaijan during the meeting of the Standing Committee of the OSCE PA on October 13-14.

She also added that the main theme of the fall session of the OSCE will be human rights.

In light of the elections, the number of international organizations that intend to observe the vote is on the increase.

This year missions from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), GUAM, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international organizations will observe the October 9 presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
