Panama’s National Assembly condemns Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territory

The National Assembly of Panama has adopted resolution, which condemns the occupation of the Azerbaijani territory by Armenian armed forces, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

The Resolution on the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories by Armenian armed forces was adopted unanimously through voting at the National Assembly on August 7.

The resolution strongly condemns the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and adjacent seven regions of Azerbaijan by Armenian armed forces, rough violation of the rights of the Azerbaijani people during the military conflict and after it, in particular the genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis in Khojaly town in 1992.

The Khojaly massacre is one of the most heinous and bloodiest events of the 20th century. Late into the night of February 25, 1992, the town of Khojaly came under intensive fire from the town of Khankendi and Askeran already occupied by Armenian armed forces. 613 civilians were killed, including 106 women, 70 elderly and 83 children, and a total of 1,000 civilians were disabled. Moreover, 1,275 innocent people were taken hostage.

The resolution also urges Armenia to fulfill the four relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

Earlier in July, the second committee on foreign affairs and national security issues of the Colombian Congress' House of Representatives has strongly condemned Armenia's hostile policy against Azerbaijan by issuing a resolution on the long-standing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the Khojaly genocide.

Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a fragile ceasefire in 1994. Armenian armed forces have since occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, defying the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on a pullout from the occupied territories.
