UAE embassy in Baku marks public holiday

The embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Azerbaijan has organized an official reception to mark the country`s public holiday - Independence Day, AzerTac state news agency reported.

Opening the event ambassador Salem Khalifa Mohamed Al-Gafli spoke of the history of the country`s Independence Day.

Touching upon relationship between Azerbaijan and UAE, the ambassador said it was based on mutual respect, brotherhood, common history, particularly Islamic heritage. He praised economic cooperation between the two countries, saying trade turnover between the two countries increased by 24 percent in nine months of the current year.

Azerbaijan`s economic development minister Shahin Mustafayev congratulated the UAE people on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev. Mustafayev praised political relations between Azerbaijan and UAE, noting the two countries share the same position on international issues and support each other.

The minister underscored the role of reciprocal visits in expansion of bilateral cooperation. He added President Aliyev`s official visit to UAE in 2006 marked a new stage in development of relationship. Mustafayev also pointed out more than 20 documents were signed between Azerbaijan and UAE.

The official reception was attended by officials, MPs, diplomats and journalists.
