Pope sees relations with Azerbaijan as exemplary

The Vatican’s relations with Azerbaijan are a good example for other countries to follow, Pope Benedict XVI has said.
"The Vatican makes every effort to develop its relations with various countries, and the Holy See’s relations with Azerbaijan can serve as a positive example in this regard," Benedict XVI said during his annual meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Vatican Elchin Amirbayov told journalists.
According to Amirbayov, the Pope cited as an example the bilateral agreement on the status of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan signed last year.
Benedict XVI stressed that the Vatican attaches great importance to its relations with Azerbaijan.
The ambassador, on behalf of his country's government, re-invited the Pope to Azerbaijan. The invitation was accepted.
