Israel renews Azerbaijan travel warning

BAKU - The Israeli government has renewed its travel warning for Israeli tourists to Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia issued in February, citing an alleged "continuous threat to attack Israeli targets" in the three countries, Israel National News reported.
The National Security Council Counter-Terrorism Bureau (NSCCTB) said Israelis looking for hot spots in which to spend their summer vacation should avoid traveling to these countries.
As for Israelis who decide to travel to these countries despite the warning, the NSCCTB advised them to be "highly sensitive" and aware at tourist venues, avoid places frequented by large numbers of Israelis, and decline unexpected business or other proposals. It also recommended that Israelis decline unexpected invitations to meetings, especially in remote locales and at night, avoid admitting suspect or unexpected visitors into hotel rooms or residence, and during prolonged stay in these countries, vary daily routines by changing regular itineraries, restaurants, tourism venues and hotels.
Early this year, the US, British and Israeli governments warned their citizens over an alleged terror threat in Azerbaijan, advising them not to travel to the country or stay away from public places. The US State Department said later that based on "terrorist threat information", the likelihood of such attacks remains high, though it did not cite the nature of the threat or who could pose it. But no terror attacks have since been committed against foreign nationals.
The spokesman for the US embassy in Azerbaijan, Keith Bean, said on Tuesday that the US government’s warning over an alleged terror threat in Baku remains in force. Bean did not cite the source that issued the terror alert, but added that since Washington has issued several such warnings, the matter is "very serious."
Azerbaijani law enforcement officials have dismissed the threat of terror attacks in the country.
