Another Russian journalist barred from Azerbaijan
BAKU – A Russian journalist has been blacklisted in Azerbaijan after visiting the country’s Armenia-occupied territories without Baku’s permission, the foreign ministry said.
Elkhan Polukhov, the ministry’s spokesman, said Yuri Snegirov has been barred from coming to Azerbaijan after visiting Nagorno Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region where separatists are running a self-proclaimed republic.
Snegirov has written two articles about the visit for Russia’s Izvestiya (News) newspaper.
Earlier, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry declared as "persona non grata" Sergei Buntman, Echo of Moscow radio station’s first assistant editor-in-chief, after his unauthorized trip to Nagorno Karabakh.
Nagorno Karabakh has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes.
