Ganja mayor reassigned to Sumgayit
BAKU – The mayor of Ganja, Azerbaijan’s second largest city, has stepped down from his post and was appointed head of Sumgayit’s executive authority, according to a decree enacted by President Ilham Aliyev on Friday, state news agency AzerTAc reported.
Eldar Azizov served as Ganja’s mayor from 2003.
Under another presidential decree, Vagif Aliyev, who acted as the mayor of Sumgayit, was instead appointed first deputy minister of culture and tourism.
The post of Ganja mayor will be taken by Elmar Valiyev, who headed the executive authority of Yevlakh.
