The Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, conducted another visit within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism, focusing on places where individuals are deprived of their freedom, Azernews reports.
The latest visit took place at the Temporary Detention Center and Pre-trial Detention Center of the State Security Service, with the participation of the Ombudsman and members of the National Preventive Group on the Prevention of Torture.
During the visit, several accused individuals, including Ruben Vardanyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and David Babayan, were received individually by the Ombudsman. Their appeals were heard, and their detention conditions and rights were assessed.
A medical specialist from the National Preventive Group also conducted examinations. R. Vardanyan and B. Sahakyan confirmed that they had been treated humanely since their detention, had not faced discrimination or ill-treatment, and were provided with adequate medical care and detention conditions. They also acknowledged multiple visits by the Ombudsman and the International Committee of the Red Cross, expressing gratitude for the continued monitoring.
The visit included an on-site inspection of hygiene, medical care, nutrition, and access to legal assistance, confirming that detainees were receiving necessary services without discrimination. Additionally, individuals were provided with informational materials on legal rights and mechanisms for appeal, including the Ombudsman’s "916" Call Center.
