Russia's fulfills insurance payment for AZAL's Embraer 190 crash in Kazakhstan

The Russian company Alfa Insurance has made the full insurance payment for the Embraer 190 passenger aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) that crashed near Katau, Kazakhstan, Azernews reports, citing Ilya Kabachnik, Deputy General Director of Alfa Insurance for Aviation and Space Insurance.
"Both the aircraft and the carrier's liability to passengers were insured by Alfa Insurance. The main part of the risk was re-insured to the Russian National Reinsurance Company. The full insurance payment was made in February," he stated.
Each airline, including AZAL, insures its aircraft, and passengers also have flight insurance included in their ticket price. Alfastrakhovanie fulfilled its contractual obligations to AZAL, covering the insured aircraft and passenger liabilities.
Kabachnik also clarified why the insurer proceeded with the payment before the official investigation was completed.
"Although the investigation into the accident is ongoing, we have enough information to arrange payments. As an insurer, the fact that the aircraft was destroyed is important to us. Since the risks of war and terrorism are also insured, the airline will receive payment in any case," he explained.
