Azerbaijan Ombudsman's office hosts event on enhancing child rights protection [PHOTOS]
The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan held an educational event on December 27 titled "The role of local executive authorities in the protection of children's rights," Azernews reports.
The event, part of the 2024 Action Plan for legal awareness, brought together deputy heads of local executive authorities in Baku, members of commissions on minors' affairs, and representatives of the Ombudsman’s regional and Nakhchivan centers, with the latter participating online.
The initiative aimed to enhance knowledge on child rights protection and address challenges in implementing these rights nationwide.
Aydin Safikhanli, Head of the Ombudsman’s Office, highlighted ongoing reforms in child rights protection, legislative alignment with international standards, and the Ombudsman institution’s monitoring role. He also emphasized the importance of educational events to promote child rights in both urban and rural areas.
Presentations by Nigar Aghayeva and Azer Isali, from the Child Rights Protection Sector, focused on legislative frameworks, institutional systems, and responsibilities of state agencies in ensuring child rights. They also discussed the Ombudsman’s role in monitoring the Convention on the Rights of the Child, recommendations from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and insights from the Ombudsman’s annual reports.
The event concluded with speeches from local executive authority representatives and discussions on overcoming current challenges in child rights protection.
