A group of Azerbaijani civil society representatives have issued a joint statement regarding the violence and injuries they suffered at the behest of the US congressman. Azernews presents the statement:

“We, a group of Azerbaijani NGO representatives, appeal to the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Azerbaijan and declare that we have been subjected to violence and injuries by the guards of US Congressman Frank Pallone, who arrived in Baku at the behest of his bodyguards.

Islamophobe, Turkophobe, financial fraudster, and corrupt US Congressman Frank Pallone is a person who hates the Azerbaijani people, and all his activities are based on slander against Azerbaijan. He defends the interests of the Armenian lobby in the United States and has repeatedly disrespected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We regret that the UN invited such a person to COP29.

We protest his visit to Azerbaijan. We held a peaceful protest in front of the hotel where he was staying and demanded that he apologize to the Azerbaijani people. He is a person who patronizes a war criminal. During the occupation of Karabakh, nature was destroyed, and the territory fell into an ecological crisis. The invitation of such a person by the UN to a global environmental event dedicated to climate change in the world will go down in the history of the COP as a shameful event. During our action, Frank Peloni gave the order to his guards to attack us, and he himself did not answer our questions.

During the peaceful action, Frank Peloni's guards inflicted numerous injuries on us. We received injuries of varying degrees on different parts of our bodies.

Local law enforcement agencies were able to save our lives. Photos and videos of the action have been made public. We demand that these images be investigated and that legal measures be taken against Frank Pallone's guards and Frank Peloni, who repeatedly illegally crossed the borders of Azerbaijan during the occupation.
Frank Peloni must be brought to justice in Azerbaijan.

We will file an official complaint with law enforcement agencies about the violence and injuries we have been subjected to.”
