Hikmet Hajiyev: Almost all parties to Convention are consumers of fossil fuels
Today, there are demands from the real world, and fossil fuels are an integral part of the existing world. Of course, they have a negative impact on the climate, that is a fact, Azernews reports.
However, we need to work together to address this issue, not engage in cheap and meaningless discussions of this kind.
These were the words of Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, in an interview with journalists.
"That is why, up to now, the countries that have hosted COP have, in one way or another, been countries that produce fossil fuels. For example, before us, COP was held in European countries, such as Poland, in Katowice. Poland is one of the largest coal-producing countries in the world. It was held in Glasgow, Great Britain as well, and Glasgow is one of the largest coal production areas. Therefore, rather than mutual accusations, we need to contribute to result-oriented discussions," the President's Assistant added.
Hikmet Hajiyev also emphasized that, in general, regarding fossil fuels, while there is supply on one side, there is also demand on the other. Almost all parties to the Convention are consumers of fossil fuels.
