19th UN Youth Conference on Climate Change wraps up [PHOTOS]
The 19th UN Youth Conference on Climate Change (COY19) held in Baku, jointly organized by the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAYM) and YOUNGO, the Official Youth and Children's Consensus Group of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, ended, Azernews reports, citing Azertag.
The closing ceremony began with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The COP29 President-designate, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev made a speech and emphasized the importance of youth participation in the climate dialogue.
Later, COP29 Youth Climate Champion Leyla Hasanova talked about the importance of involving young people in climate action. Felipe Paullier, UN Secretary General's assistant for youth work, called the participants to be active in climate processes. In the end, Nigar Bagırli, head of the secretariat of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, spoke and said that COY19 created a great opportunity for young people to play a more active role in the fight against climate change.
The Global Youth Declaration was officially presented at the closing ceremony. That document will represent the official position of the global youth community at COP29 and convey to world leaders the calls of young people on climate change.
In the end, young people from different countries demonstrated their cultures and came together in an atmosphere enriched with national dances, music, and costumes.
