Azerbaijan's Finance Minister, Samir Sharifov, represented Azerbaijan at the conference in London under the patronage of British King Charles III, dedicated to strengthening international climate action ahead of COP29.

Azernews reports that the event, attended by business leaders, ambassadors, industry leaders, and officials from Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Brazil, which are members of the COP Troika, was co-chaired by the British Minister for Energy Security and Zero Emissions, Ed Miliband, the British Minister for Development Affairs, Anneliese Dodds, and the Environment Minister, Steve Reed.

Speaking at the discussions dedicated to financing the transition to alternative energy during the conference, the Minister of Finance, Samir Sharifov, touched upon the importance of the green energy transition to reduce carbon emissions in the world and said that the COP29 event to be held in Azerbaijan is an increasingly important moment in terms of reaching an agreement on international climate finance and advancing climate action in general. The Minister said that Azerbaijan is doing everything within its power to ensure the success of the event.

In his speech, British Minister for Energy Security and Zero Emissions Ed Miliband emphasized the crucial importance of COP29 and noted that his country would be represented at the event in Baku with a high-level delegation and play a leading role in agreeing on climate finance.

Later, British King Charles III hosted a banquet at Buckingham Palace in honor of the participants of the event. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy also attended the banquet.

During the banquet, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov also had a brief conversation with British King Charles III, who always pays attention to the issue of international sustainability and climate action. Minister Samir Sharifov conveyed the greetings of the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, to the British King. In turn, King Charles III expressed his gratitude and asked to convey his greetings to the President of Azerbaijan. Continuing the conversation, the British King emphasized the important importance of COP29 and wished the event a successful outcome.

In the final document adopted at the end of the event, global business and industry leaders expressed their support for COP29 to be held in our country.
