The opening of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders has been held in Baku, Azernews reports.

The summit, which took place at the "Gulustan" Palace, was attended by around 30 leaders of world and traditional religions, representing 55 countries and 30 international organizations. These included patriarchs, Vatican and Al-Azhar officials, as well as prominent religious and public figures from various continents and confessions, all internationally recognized.

Having previously hosted the First and Second World Summits of Religious Leaders, Azerbaijan’s goal for this summit, within the framework of COP 29, is to make a tangible contribution to addressing the issue of climate change from a moral perspective, which is of great significance for the future of our planet.

It should be noted that the Global Summit of Religious Leaders in Baku, held under the slogan "World Religions for a Green Planet," was organized under the initiative and patronage of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev. The summit’s partners include Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, the Caucasian Muslims Office, the International Council of Muslim Elders, and the UN Environment Programme.

The summit will take place on November 5-6. Additionally, a visit to Azerbaijan's territories liberated from Armenian occupation by foreign guests is also planned.
