Today in Baku, the "Azerbaijan - NATO" event dedicated to studying issues of energy security and climate change has opened, Azernews reports, citing Anar Mutallimov, the acting head of the Military-Political Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as he stated during roundtable meeting with NATO representatives.

He noted that the event was organized within the framework of the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s accession to NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” framework document.

“The timing of our meeting is very significant in terms of joining NATO’s 'Partnership for Peace' program. The 30-year cooperation with NATO has been based on the framework program’s commitments, values, and principles, as well as the United Nations Charter. This roundtable will be an excellent opportunity to study issues related to energy security and climate change,” he stated.

The roundtable meeting is attended by a representative of NATO’s Climate and Energy Security sector from the Innovation, Hybrid Issues, and Cybersecurity Department, representatives from NATO member and partner countries, as well as experts in relevant fields and representatives of Azerbaijan’s academic institutions.

During the event, discussions were held around energy security, Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring Europe’s energy security, possible threats and risks to critical energy infrastructure and its protection, and issues of climate change and energy security.

Azerbaijan’s role as a reliable partner and energy supplier, as well as the country’s efforts in combating climate change and transitioning to “green energy,” including its leadership in the upcoming COP29 event, were especially emphasized.
