Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan to sign strategic partnership agreement on green energy at COP29
An "Intergovernmental Agreement between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on strategic partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy" will be signed during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azernews reports.
In an article published in the "Azerbaijan newspaper", Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, stated that this agreement marks a significant milestone in the creation of a new energy corridor initiative that begins in Central Asia. "One of the tasks ahead is the creation of a joint venture with headquarters in Baku. The signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on strategic partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy is among our plans for COP," Shahbazov explained.
He also emphasized ongoing discussions about connecting the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe "Green Energy Corridor" to Central Asia, further enhancing the region's role in global clean energy supplies.
The draft Agreement highlights the parties' intentions to organize the delivery of "clean energy" to Europe and other regions, to implement new technologies, and to develop energy efficiency and energy-saving services. The agreement will be signed for an indefinite period, reflecting a long-term commitment to collaboration.
This development follows the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the energy ministers of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan on May 1, 2024. The memorandum, signed during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, outlines the interconnection of the energy systems of the three republics by laying a high-voltage cable through the Caspian Sea, creating an optimal trade route for green energy from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
