Chairman of Milli Majlis meets with a delegation [PHOTOS]
On July 18, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation visiting Azerbaijan headed by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Fuat Oktay. Azernews reports, citing Parliament.
The press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis told, that Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, expressing satisfaction with the visit of the Turkish delegation to the Milli Majlis, highly appreciated the activities of Fuat Oktay as Vice President of Turkiye, as well as during the period when he was co-chair of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Turkiye and Azerbaijan.
Gafarova congratulated the guest on his election to the post of chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Supreme National Assembly and noted that the victory of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the elections in Turkiye, the re-election of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the post of head of state was closely followed in Azerbaijan. Sahiba Gafarova also said that about 30 deputies of the Milli Majlis also observed these elections within the framework of missions of various international organizations.
During the conversation, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis stressed the importance of the last visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Turkiye, and spoke about the role of high-level meetings and negotiations in the development of relations.
The speaker noted that Turkiye supported the just cause of Azerbaijan in the 44-day Patriotic War. And the signing of the Shusha Declaration by the heads of state of the two friendly and fraternal countries after the Patriotic War raised Azerbaijani-Turkish relations to a new level.
Speaking about the inter-parliamentary relations of the two countries, the speaker noted the close cooperation of the mutual friendship groups and expressed confidence that the cooperation agreement signed in April this year between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Turkish Grand National Assembly will contribute to the development of relations.
Noting that in 2014 the foundation was laid for cooperation between the foreign relations committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Georgia on a trilateral basis, she stressed the importance of holding 8 meetings in this format from the point of view of regional cooperation. The speaker also noted that cooperation in this format between other committees of the parliaments of the two countries can also be useful.
During the conversation, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also informed about the large-scale construction and restoration work carried out in the territories liberated after the Patriotic War, as well as about the course of the peace process. She expressed confidence that Armenia will take into account the new realities that have developed in the region and will appreciate Azerbaijan's peace initiative.
Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Supreme National Assembly, spoke with satisfaction about his visit to Azerbaijan and shared his impressions of yesterday's meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. He stressed that the alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkiye, created within the framework of the Shusha Declaration, provides very serious opportunities for both countries.
Fuat Oktay once again thanked the government of Azerbaijan and its people for their fraternal support during the earthquake in Turkiye in February this year.
During the conversation, the chairman of the VNST committee noted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, the prospects for cooperation within the TurkPA, further expansion of ties between the two countries in the economic, trade, energy, transport, and other fields, as well as major projects being implemented in the region.
At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on other issues of interest.
