Azerbaijani ruling party, Macedonian TDP ink cooperation accord

The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) and the Democratic Party of Turks (TDP) in North Macedonia signed a memorandum of cooperation on May 10, Trend reported.

The document was signed by Tahir Budagov, a member of the NAP Political Council, Head of the Central Office of the party, and President of the TDP Beycan Ilyas.

Both parties stressed the significance of fresh prospects in furthering bilateral relations.

The ruling NAP was established on 21 November 1992 under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev. The ruling party's current chairman is Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The TDP is a political party of the Turkish minority in North Macedonia, founded in 1990. The party joined the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM)-led coalition and won two seats in the 2002 and 2006 parliamentary elections. The party was part of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) coalition for 8 years from 2008 to 2016.

The party's single member in the Macedonian parliament is Yusuf Hasani, and it participated in a coalition with SDSM-Besa in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
