Azeri official’s coat stolen at CoE
An astonishing incident took place at the Council of Europe’s building in Strasbourg, France on Thursday. A woolen coat of the Azerbaijani CE Parliamentary Assembly delegation head, Samad Seyidov, was stolen.
Rumors circulated that the coat is worth $3,000.
Seyidov confirmed the theft in an interview with Radio Liberty, saying he could not even imagine such an incident taking place in the heart of Europe, particularly on the premises of such an influential organization.
Seyidov said the incident had taken place in one of the conference rooms as discussions proceeded, saying his coat "had disappeared" from there. According to him, no one other than PACE employees and lawmakers were present in the room at the time.
Search for the item was complicated due to the absence of surveillance cameras.
Seyidov said the coat cost not $3,000, but 500 to 600 manats ($750 at the most), adding that he was having to use his son’s coat instead during the PACE session.
It is currently snowing in Strasbourg.*
