Azerbaijan among top recognized
Azerbaijan is the first among former communist
countries of Europe to be recognized for the legitimacy of its
government, a US university professor has said.
In a book, "Right of power: how a state gains and loses legitimacy", Political Science Professor Bruce Gilley of Portland University says that Azerbaijan is ahead of 21 Central and East European countries, as well as the European part of the CIS, in this respect.
The author analyzed the situation in 72 countries. Gilley used socioeconomic and political development indicators to arrange the countries in a certain order and Azerbaijan holds the ninth place in it. Thus, Azerbaijan is ahead of a number of EU, Asian and Latin American countries.
Ukraine ranks 56th, Georgia 68th, Turkey 62nd, Armenia 70th and Russia 72nd.
