Samukh, a region of Azerbaijan located in the Central-Kura economic region, plans to export local agricultural products to foreign countries.

Garlic grown in the region will be exported to Belarus, Elmar Garayev, head of the information provision and analysis sector of the executive power of the region told Azertac.

He noted that the region’s farmers have planted garlic in the area of 30 hectares for 2018.

Noting that garlic is a plant that is resistant to many diseases and pests, Garayev said that this product brings big revenues to farmers through productivity and higher prices.

"In 2016, five hectares of garlic were planted in the Samukh region and 52.6 tons of the product were harvested. Last year, 12 hectares of garlic was grown, from which 152 tons of crops were harvested. Farmers planted 30 hectares of garlic and are expecting high productivity this year. The cultivated crop will be exported not only to the local market but also to Belarus," he said.

Additionally, a unique pilot project has been launched in Sarkar village of the Samukh region. The project named "Value chain of dry fruit production" will link the products cultivated by the resident of Samukh, Shamkir, and Goygol regions with the manufacturer and will ensure that the final product is delivered to the vendor.

Moreover, for the first time, dry grapes produced in Samukh will be exported abroad.

"Value chain" is a joint project implemented by the State Service for Agricultural Projects and Credit Management under the Ministry of Agriculture jointly with the World Bank.

The Value Chain project is not just about innovation in activities and relationships. At the same time, it envisages the use of the most innovative technologies in the production and processing of agricultural products. The goal of the project is to increase the number of healthy farms and to accelerate product production.
