By Rashid Shirinov
Pakistan has undertaken commitments of the contract for the timely delivery of Super Mushshak aircraft to Azerbaijan.
Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force Sohail Aman said in Baku at a meeting with the commander of the Air Force of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Ramiz Tahirov.
In Baku, Sohail Aman and Ramiz Tahirov also discussed prospects of training Azerbaijani military pilots in the institutes of the Pakistan Air Force, Trend reported.
Sohail Aman also visited the Military Academy of Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces to deliver a lecture on “The use of air forces in asymmetric warfare.”
In July, Pakistan signed an agreement with Azerbaijan for sale of 10 Super Mushshak training aircraft to Azerbaijan Air Force.
The contract was signed in Azerbaijan, where Air Marshal Arshad Malik, Chairman of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex at the town of Kamra represented Pakistan, whereas Azerbaijan was represented by Air Force Commander Azerbaijan Lieutenant General Ramiz Tahirov at the occasion.
The document also covers operational training and technical support and assistance to Azerbaijan Air Force.
The aircraft is already in service with Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iran and South Africa.
Back in November 2016, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry and Pakistan’s Joint Staff Headquarters signed a plan of bilateral military cooperation in Islamabad. The sides agreed to continue cooperation in carrying out joint military exercises and discussed detailed cooperation in defense sector and joint military production.
Azerbaijan, which is in war with neighboring Armenia over the latter's territorial claims, keeps in focus the armament. The country, which enjoys the most modern army in the Caucasus, leaves behind many CIS countries to take its place among the first 60 strongest militaries of the world.
Pakistan is one of the oldest and closest allies and strategic partners of Azerbaijan in Asia. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is one of the first countries that recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on December 12, 1991.
