MP: All states should unite efforts in fight against terrorism

All states should unite their efforts in the fight against terrorism, said Azerbaijani MP, Vice President of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Azay Guliyev as he addressed the 62nd Pugwash International Conference titled "Confronting New Nuclear Dangers" in Astana.

Hailing the importance of the Pugwash conference, Azay Guliyev noted that such kind of events contribute to preventing nuclear weapons proliferation, combating terrorism and addressing regional security issues with the close involvement of international partners.

The Azerbaijani MP also underlined a significant role of international organizations in the fight against terrorism.

He noted that the OSCE, which is a security and cooperation organization, provides member states with a wide range of opportunities to work together in combating human trafficking, radicalism, extremism and terrorism.

Drawing the audiences' attention to the fact that a special committee on combating terrorism was established within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Vice President Guliyev emphasized the importance of involving the US, Russia and a number of European countries in the activities of this committee, which is “the best platform for dialogue and cooperation in the fight against international terrorism”.

Azay Guliyev then responded to questions from the conference participants.

Co-organized by the Kazakh Senate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference brought together nearly 200 delegates from 46 countries, Azertac reported.
