Steady population growth continues in Azerbaijan

The steady population growth Azerbaijan has seen over the past several years continues this year.

The country's population grew by about 33,050 people or 0.3 percent since early 2017.

As of June 1, the number of Azerbaijan’s population hit 9,843,031 people.

The density of population per square kilometer was 114 people. Some 53.0 percent of the total population is urban, 47.0 percent – rural. As much as 49.9 percent were men and 50.1 percent were women, according to the Statics Committee.

At the moment, there are 1,006 women for every 1,000 men.

Azerbaijan’s population is expected to hit 10.68 million people by 2030 and 11.03 million people by 2050, according to a new UN report by Department of Economic and Social Affairs' Population Division.

The report forecasts that life expectancy at birth will increase in Azerbaijan. So if in 2015-2020 it is 72.1 years, then by 2045-2050 will increase to 75.7 and in 2095-2100 - to 82.6 years.
