Border Service detain almost 60 violators in December

The State Border Service (SBS) averted 38 attempts to breach the state border of Azerbaijan in December 2016. This resulted in detaining of 58 people, the SBS told Trend on January 13.
Among the detained, 23 persons are citizens of Azerbaijan, seven –Ghana, six - Uzbekistan and Nigeria each, five - Iran, three - Bangladesh, two - Ukraine and one - Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Cameroon and Kyrgyzstan each.
Moreover, 13 people were arrested in eight cases of violating the border regime in the Caspian sea, while 659 persons were detained in 487 cases at points of border control. The State Border Service took appropriate measures against them.
As a result of crime control measures in December 2016, as many as 373 people, who had been declared wanted by law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan, were detained by the SBS.
Furthermore, over 12 kilograms of drugs were discovered and seized in 14 cases, while contraband on more than 919,000 manats ($505,000) was seized in 73 cases as a result of anti-smuggling measures.
The State Border Service of Azerbaijan was established on 31 July 2002. The Service periodically holds exercises to improve the skills and experience of its staff.
