Turkey is ready to share with Azerbaijan its experience in shipbuilding, including manufacture of warships, and also to help with modernization and re-equipment of Azerbaijan’s Navy.
Davut Yilmaz, General Director of the Turkish company STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade made the remark while talking to Anadolu Agency on October 5.
“We know what Azerbaijan’s Navy needs, and we are ready to support modernization of the newly built naval base of the country. Azerbaijan also needs new warships, and the STM can deliver MILGEM corvettes to the country’s navy,” Yilmaz said.
He further noted that negotiations with the Azerbaijani side on this issue have been going on for over two years.
The STM company took part in the 2nd Azerbaijan International Defense Industry exhibition ADEX-2016, which was held in Baku on September 27-30.
High-speed patrol boats and corvettes designed for the Turkish Navy were presented at the ADEX-2016.
Yilmaz stressed that ADEX-2016 exhibition demonstrated what contribution the Turkish side can make to ensure Azerbaijan’s needs in the defense sphere.
The STM company is engaged in the construction of high speed military vessels, including the corvette MILGEM. The company has already worked with Turkish and Pakistani Navies.
Azerbaijan created Navy Special Forces unit in 2001. Today, Azerbaijani Navy is considered one of the most powerful in the region. It is equipped with a number of submarines, frigates, patrol, missile and torpedo boats, landing crafts, minesweepers and naval aircraft.
The Azerbaijani Navy systemically conducts exercise in the waters of the Caspian Sea.
