Suburban railway line being expanded

Heavy traffic is one of the most serious problems that Baku has to deal with nowadays. However, new measure offered by Azerbaijan Railways can in some extent facilitate the lives of those, who have to travel long distances.

A new railway line will be laid from Baku railway station to the Heydar Aliyev International Airports. Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov said that the work is underway in this regard.

The project envisages the construction of the 25 km railway. In accordance with the original plan, the trains will run on the new route from "Koroglu" subway station to Bina village and then to the airport.

This can be very beneficial against the backdrop of tense traffic situation in the capital city, this idea is commendable. Railway network should be developed and expanded, after all, the city always moves ahead -- the population is increasing and new buildings are being built, which increases the burden on Baku’s transport infrastructure.

Experts say that resuscitation of the suburban railway line and converting it into a modern standard with new trains can be beneficial for the city. The fact is that an overwhelming number of citizens of suburban settlements reach the city on the ground public transport - buses, that, therefore, adversely affect the traffic situation and road safety.

Besides the new railway project will partially solve the problem of congestion on a number of avenues.
