By Amina Nazarli
Put aside that Monopoly, cease your Trivial Pursuing, as new national board game created by Azerbaijani Sanan Mahmudov can be rather interesting for the whole family.
Grand Bazaar, is the first finance board game of the nation aimed to contribute to strengthening the financial literacy, because, in fact, the rules allow players to make profitable trading transactions using mathematical skills and knowledge.
The main task of the game, which is able to involve from 2 to 7 players at the age of 8 and older, is increase of the initial capital. The duration of one party is 30-45 minutes.
The players in the Grand Bazaar have to buy three kinds of precious stones, including sapphires, rubies and emeralds cheaper and sell them more expensive.
“The local market of board games is limited,” said Mahmudov. “Boards games do not have many fans. Moreover, sometimes it is impossible to find the game that you are looking for in Baku. Although there can be seen a rising interest to this type of entertainment in the country over the recent years.”
The game is already available in the national market for 20 manats (about $12).
The author also plans to bring the game to the international market in the future. The game will be presented at the Essen Spiel 2016, the largest exhibition of board games held in Germany.
“The increase in the cost of imported games makes Grand Bazaar quite competitive. In addition it’s better to buy the domestic product. At the same time, one of our goals is to popularize this game outside of Azerbaijan. We hope that many will like the game, and financial success will enable us to take major steps towards export,” he said.
Mahmudov also added that several games will be released soon and some of them will be associated with the history and culture of Azerbaijan.
The artist of the game is the famous French artist Alexander Roche, who also designed games such as Jaipur, Singapore, Bruxelles 1893, The Golden Ages, The Ladies of Troyes, Nefertiti, Rattus, Troyes and others.
