The Caspian Times: Holding Formula 1 to bring global attention towards Azerbaijan
Holding such an extraordinary sports event as the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe will bring the global attention towards Azerbaijan, Malik Ayub Sumbal, editor-in-chief at The Caspian Times, told Trend June 14.
Sumbal said the Formula 1 event is highly discussed on the global arena and Azerbaijan's name is being quoted for the sports lovers as the organizer of this mega-event.
He reminded that Formula 1 is not the first international sports event hosted by Azerbaijan, adding that the country held the First European Games in 2015, which involved about 6,000 athletes from 49 countries.
Sumbal also expressed confidence that like all the international sports events hosted by Azerbaijan, the Formula 1 in Baku will be successful and will give a message of peace, love and interfaith harmony to the world.
Azerbaijan's sports industry will flourish through the Formula 1 event, since the big Formula 1 audience will throng in Baku and all the eyes will be on the Baku City Circuit, said Sumbal.
He added that the country's tourism industry will get a big boom through the Formula 1.
The 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe will be held June 17-19 in Baku. Eleven teams will take part in the racing: Mercedes AMG Petronas, Scuderia Ferrari, Williams Martini Racing, Red Bull Racing, Sahara Force India, Haas F1 Team, McLaren Honda, Toro Rosso, Sauber F1 Team, Renault Sport F1 and Manor Racing.
